COULD YOU BE PANXESUAL? WHAT IS PANXESUAL?
Sometimes, to describe something with just one word is impossible, life, love, happiness. There are too many things that cannot be explained with one word, so why should there be only one word to explain sexual preferences? Why should people even consider there is a single sexual kind? Here is when there come terms like heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, and many more that are linked to the LGBT community. If you are part of this community you may be familiar with these terms and many more, but if you aren’t let’s make a short review of them: a heterosexual person is the one attracted to people from their opposite sex or gender; a homosexual person in the one that is attracted to another person from their same sex or gender; bisexual is someone who may like people from their same or their opposite sex or gender. To this short list you can add many, many more because there are many others! There is a huge diversity including also transgender, queer, intersexual, asexual and pansexual.
Before going on, remember, sex: is related to the physical elements and secondary physical manifestations that are associated to a female or male person. On the other hand gender is usually defined as the variety of characteristics relating to, and distinguishing between, masculinity and femininity. That is why variety in this world is the key.
As you have read in the title have you ever asked yourself if you could be pansexual? To answer this question you need to know first what is pansexual? This term comes from the prefix pan- that means "all, every" and its origin is from the Ancient Greek: In other words, to be a pansexual means you can like, love and be attracted to a person, no matter what its sex or gender is. What is the difference between a pansexual and a bisexual? A bisexual feels attraction to man and women that are defined like it, according to its sexual characteristics and gender, but a pansexual may feel desire for people, from all genders and identities for example female, male, transsexual, transgender and much more. Some people have doubts about the difference between bisexual and pansexual, so far the biggest difference is pansexual people have do not care about sex or gender to be able to feel sexual or romantic attraction to someone.
How can you identify if you are pansexual? In this case you should be aware of your personality, you don’t mind sharing with all kind of people and you have felt attracted to people without looking specifically to his/her sex or gender. There have been some controversial comments related to this term, because some members of the LGBT community disagrees it, and also refer that this excludes some of the preferences that are under this acronym, but this world is so diverse, controversy or not it is used and for some people who identify with its characteristics don’t like to be referred as something different than pansexual.
Come curios facts about the pansexual world are: the term goes back to the time of Sigmund Freud, but even it has existed from a long time ago, it had a different meaning. This preference has its own flag! Its colors are pink, representing femininity; the color yellow stands for androgyny and blue that is there for masculinity; attention, this term does not include practices as pedophilia or necrophilia. Pansexuality is also called omnisexuality; In addition to this, there are some famous people who may be included in this category: Angelina Jolie, Ricky Martin, Drew Barrymore, Lady Gaga, Cara Delevinge, Kirsten Steward have identified themselves as bisexual, but so far Miley Cyrus is one of the artist that has openly declared to be pansexual.
There are also some elements you should consider to help you identify if you are pansexual:
Have you been confused about your sexual orientation? Have you ever been or fantasied with being in a relationship with a transsexual or a gay person? How do you feel about other’s sexual orientation, are you open-minded or conservative? How aware are you of the person’s gender when it comes to feel attracted to him/her? How do you feel about being called gay or bisexual, do you feel this words perfectly match with your sexuality? Do you feel external gender characteristics are over inner characteristics to start a relationship? Have you ever had difficulties defining your gender?
If after thinking about these questions you feel: you feel emotional, romantic and sexual attraction by a person no matter its gender or sexual orientation and also its sex characteristics are not the priority for you to establish a relationship and you don’t judge people by whom they decide to love, there are some elements of pansexuality in you. It also depends on you how far do you want to go, how much do you want to explore and what do you choose to live.
In any case, what matters is not the name by whom you are called or you identify what really matters is how you feel how happy you are, how good do you feel with yourself, can you truly accept you by who you are. In this point there are not lies, it doesn’t matter what you want to show to the world, what matters is how you built your inner world. If you are part or the LGBT community there are already too many battles to be fought out there, to create battles inside the community. To much time has passed to help the world to recognize there is more than binary preferences, that there is more than heterosexual or homosexual, each people and each couple is unique and the deal is trying to make things as best as possible for you and for the people you care about. So no matter what is the name given to if, what matters is that each person has to be able to live its sexuality in a free, happy and healthy way.
